Time is Not Real!

Time is not real!

Ok maybe I am rushing it, let’s start from the beginning.

When I started writing this Nugget, I faced a writing block.

Well, allegedly.

So I did what I always do when I face a writing block, I started writing freely about anything that comes to my mind, to “open up the flow” and that’s exactly the issue of this Nugget.

With doing so, I implicitly declared that there is a block in my writing flow, and focused my mind on opening that imaginary block. Even though in reality, it took me less than a minute to open up that block, simply by realizing that I self imposed that block.

Then I thought about how it is the perfect opening for this Nugget.

Time is Not Real!

**Before I proceed to tell you how time is not real, I am trying something new so this nugget is going to be shorter than usual, hold tight, this is going to be a fast ride.

Alright let’s go.

When we set goals, “new year resolutions” style, we tend to tell ourselves how we want to be this and that.

How we want to be fit, confident and wealthy.

We list an entire document of the desired reality we want to live in.

Then we proceed to work towards our goals, and suddenly it seems so far that we give up and save it for another year.

We are in the 12th week of the year.

Most people already forgot about their New Year Resolutions, most already gave up and went back to their normal routine.

That same reality we imagined on January 1st seems so far into the future that it’s easier to get back to “current reality” and dream for another year.

And here's the problem.

When we set goals in that manner, by saying “I want to be This”

“I want to achieve that”

We create a Gap between our current reality and our desired reality.

We Declare (whether we are aware or not) that we are not living in the reality we want to live in.

And our default go-to is to think that it is a matter of time.

We delude ourselves that somehow more waiting will change the situation we live in and bring us to that desired reality.

But,

When it comes to changing ourselves, time is not the Main factor in the Equation.

Decision is.

What we really need is to make present decisions of Living in that Desired Reality and act on those decisions.

We need to treat those decisions not as a goal, but as a character shift.

By saying “future goals”, we implicitly say that we need to pursue them in order to reach a destination.

Saying that you pursue X is to imply that X is running away from you.

And by that, we keep a gap between our current reality and our desired reality.

We keep pursuing, and it keeps running away.

The Pivot here is to make it into a character shift, like deciding on wearing a shirt.

We talk about that desired reality in a present tense, and not as something that lies in the future.

Instead of saying “I will”, say “I Am”.

Saying “I will” something implying that you are not it now. Creating a gap between your current reality and your desired reality.

A gap we wrongly think time will fill.

Stop talking about the future and start talking about the present.

Pull that Desired Reality into your present, attract it.

Don’t say that you want to be fit, say that you are fit.

Now. in the Present.

Don’t say that you want to be wealthy, say that you are already wealthy.

Make the decision to be that thing, make the decision to wear that character trait on yourself.

Like a shirt.

Now that you decided to be that thing, the next move is to act on those decisions, to anchor them into reality.

If you decide to be fit, say to yourself that you are fit and act on those decisions, start acting like a fit person, make daily decisions as a fit person, start talking as a fit person.

Now your Character is Fit, act accordingly.

The same goes with any other decision. You want to be confident? Start telling yourself that you are already confident, And act accordingly.

Here’s the good part.

Our body goes on Autopilot, it likes consistency.

Consistency of behavior, speech and real life actions.

When we wear on ourselves a new character trait, we change the navigation direction, we pivot into a new route and now we need to condition the body to keep moving consistently on that route.

We do that with real life action.

Real life action is the way to justify the new reality to our body.

We tell ourselves that we are fit (this is the pivot).

Now we need to justify that to our body.

So we are signing up to the Gym.

We are starting to go 3 times a week.

We change the way we eat.

We pile more and more actions related to our new reality.

And our body takes all of that into consideration and tells itself “Well, I guess we are fit now”.

And start acting on autopilot as a Fit Character.

And from that point, the amount of energy we need to invest in convincing our body to be fit is minimal.

When we reach that autopilot mode, we don’t even need to think about getting the workouts in, the body is on autopilot and we just need to keep it rolling on that path.

The takeaway here is: beginning will be the hardest part for you.

First you make the conscious decision to wear that new character trait on yourself.

Then you convince your body that you are indeed possessing that character trait.

You do that by telling yourself a new story, one where you actually own the trait.

You change your whole thoughts and emotions according to that story.

You Anchor that story into Real Life with Actions.

You do that for enough Repetitions.

Your body gets convinced that you indeed actually possess that character trait.

Your Body goes on autopilot with that new trait.

From that point you breached that block and this new character trait is part of your existence, congratulations.

All you need to do is to hold tight during the initial acceleration and keep going until you reach the swift lane.

To close this letter, here is the summary:

  1. Change your speech from Future Speech to Present Speech. Talk about yourself as if you are already Possessing the New Trait.

  2. Anchor Your New Story into your Current Reality with Real Life Actions. Justify to your Body that you are it.

  3. Rely on Time only when you act on your decisions, otherwise you are going Autopilot in the same old direction.

Phew, that was a good sprint.

I have always been a Man of short intense effort, I think I will keep the next Nuggets shorter and gold packed.

What do you think?
